#116: One big gratuitous summer scroll
Many outfits and some observations
Apparently the stone fruits at the farmer's market aren't particularly good this summer because the winter was so cold and long that frost damaged many of the trees. A cruel reminder of how much we endure for such a fleeting moment of sweet, sweet summer! But at least we had Knicks Mania and the World Cup and The Odyssey! My god, The Odyssey. (I’ve already decided my next post will be an essay about it)
Anyways, New Yorkers have never felt happier to be in New York this summer. Businesses are booming, restaurants are spilling onto the sidewalks, and the city feels unusually alive with the pleasure of people choosing to stay put instead of escaping. Like, for example, I didn’t commit to seeing BTS next weekend at MetLife Stadium because I thought I’d be traveling but somehow I am in New York in August with no plans to leave???
Reorganizing my closet—and turning my office into a second one—has led me back to pieces in my wardrobe I had long forgotten about. Wearing them again has felt even better than shopping for something new and this has generally been the attitude of this summer. Feeling content with what I already have, with what is already in front of me, and focusing on building on what already exists. It's a beautiful metaphor for getting dressed, but also for life.
Here are the outfits I’ve managed to document between my Europe travels in June bopping around the city.
I’m wearing a full Sézane look: pants, tank, raffia tote (which fits my 15in MacBook I must note)
Sézane’s cotton tops keep selling out before I can even check out, which feels like a testament to our collective desire to wear nothing but cotton and other natural fibers this summer. I understand why their summer collections are so beloved. The fabrics, the cuts, the embroidery, the fit—every detail feels thoughtfully considered. At this price point, I genuinely don’t think there’s anyone doing this look of romantic summer dressing better!!
Some pieces are not sold out that I’m eyeing: this surfer-inspired striped tank, this embroidered black cami, and this perfect pointelle tank.
Khaite silk organza dress that is virtually sold out everywhere, Proenza Schouler bag, Jenni Kayne sandals, Lié Studio x Lesse lip balm necklace (so very Hermès, no?)
A full Polo Ralph Lauren look—Scarf, pants, shirt. The jacket was a part of their Wimbledon collection.
Wolford top (it feels like second skin so it’s perfect for the summer but I get so much wear out of this year-round), MANGO pants (very similar here and here), Sachi belt, Heavenly Jelly jelly flats, velvet clutch bought in Puglia (similar here and here)
Vintage Levi’s , GWYN shirt, Jimmy Choo bag, vintage Celine sunglasses
Hunza G x Burberry swimsuit, Siedres pants, Chan Luu necklace
These next set of photos are from my early Euro summer adventures, many of which have already made their way onto social. Looking through them now fills me with that familiar second-half-of-summer wistfulness. It feels like a lifetime ago that my sister and I were wandering through the tiny towns of Southern Italy, convinced we were the only two Asians anyone had seen.
By August, June already belongs to another life. But maybe for those who are going on late summer travels, these photos will serve as inspo.
Doen top and skirt, Ancient Greek Sandals jellies
Wearing Pucci on vacation is groundbreaking, I know. I still think Mythe
Mango x Eckhaus Latta sandals, Doen bandana and dress, Dragon Diffusion bag
Holli top, Leset pants (I can attest they're the best silhouette in the entire crepe bias-cut category but here is an alt and also here for more affordable and here for a wool version that I may snag while it’s on sale)
This Holli fringe halter top has taken over IG and is really a piece that typifies being Devastating Hot and Cool. In that, if you know you know but also because it’s a top that just signifies an attitude of leisure and a willingness to have fun.
Emily Levine caftan shirt, Lido bikini peeking underneath, Dries van Noten scarf-as-coverup (I love the versatility of these huge scarves that can be worn in multitude of ways. Similar here, also eyeing this)
A pad and tampon run in London lol. I love this cashmere poncho from Unsubscribed, Khaite mesh bag (again, virtually sold out because it’s many seasons old now but there are lots of stragglers on TRR)
How to dress in Montauk without leaning too much into Montauk.
Posse top (and heavily discounted, might I add), Doen skirt (available on resale here, similar here)
Leset tee, Paco Rabanne skirt, Sézane bag, Pandora necklace, Jimmy Fairly sunglasses
AG Jeans tee (truly a perfect cropped fit), Doen skirt, Sophie Bille Brahe earrings, Proenza Schouler bag
GWYN sweater, Levi’s 501 90s (really good vintage-like fit), Havaiana flip flops, Antler canvas bag
World Cup final fit!!!!! Best day of the summer for sure.
Leset satin dress (this exact version no longer avail but near-identical here and in a gorgeous silk-linen version here and shockingly more affordable? also love this perfect silhouette)
That’s all I have now! xxx
