Hello from the Delta One lounge at LAX, where my flight is delayed and I have no choice but to look out at a fleet of planes parked at their gates. The sun is beating down (as it does here), and I’m drinking a glass of Santa Barbara chardonnay (I had to be site-specific here). “California is so good,” I kept telling everyone this trip.

Not kind of a vibe, but a kind of vibe.

I spent just under a week in LA, where I took meetings (I feel very cool to say this lol), saw my beautiful friends, and relished in the strange magic of Los Angeles, a place I once associated with a kind of diffuse loneliness I couldn’t quite put into words. Every time I tried, the person I was speaking to would inevitably respond, “But it’s so beautiful?” And it is. There is something fantastical about this city. The light is almost too flattering.
